Adrian Mateos talks about the worst stretch of his career
Adrian Mateos spoke about the downswing he faced after climbing to the top of the GPI world rankings in 2017. The Spaniard admitted that behind his WSOPE Main Event win at age 19, six WSOP bracelets and $70 million in winnings, a financial and mental crisis had been hiding for a long time.

Riding the wave of success and a huge bankroll, the player relaxed, deciding that the game was too easy, and stopped working on theory. The decline in his game was compounded by financial losses, as he began actively backing other poker players and investing millions in unprofitable businesses.

The turning point came when Adrian realized he was losing control:

To save his career and get out of the downswing, the Spaniard decided to give up everything that distracted him and focused entirely on poker.
