Negreanu, Hellmuth and Mizrachi will compete for the title of most spectacular player
Global Poker Index and The Hendon Mob have unexpectedly announced an awards ceremony for the best players of the year. The seventh Global Poker Awards ceremony will take place in the Bahamas on December 4, at the start of the WSOP Paradise festival. A year ago, the organizations stated that no awards would be handed out in 2026. The reason given for cancelling the event was the excessive amount of time required to organize it.
Previously, the Global Poker Awards handed out dozens of prizes not only to players but also to other members of the poker community. Now the ceremony will focus on poker players, who will compete for awards in 11 categories:
🟣 Toughest Live Tournament Player;
🟡 Toughest Mixed-Game Tournament Player;
🟣 Toughest Cash Game Player;
🟡 Best Tablemate;
🟣 Best Villain;
🟡 Breakout Player of the Year;
🟣 Fan Favorite: Most Entertaining Player;
🟡 Best Streamer;
🟣 Best Vlogger;
🟡 Best Final Table Performance;
🟣 GPI Poker Icon.
So far, nominees have been announced only in the "Fan Favorite: Most Entertaining Player" category. The contenders for the award are Alan Keating, Dan "Jungleman" Cates, Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Michael Mizrachi, Nik Airball, Randy "3Coin" Sadler, Will Givens, Jennifer Tilly and Phil Laak. Voting will run until November 3.
Holding the ceremony during WSOP Paradise should help the organizers solve the attendance problem. According to Negreanu, players simply didn't show up to the last Global Poker Awards, which took place in February 2025.
