The Onyx series has wrapped up in Northern Cyprus. Its final event was the $50,500 High Roller Championship. It drew 18 entries, so only three finished in the money. As a result, Alexey Ponyakov and Artur Martirosyan, who finished in the top 9, left the tournament without any payout.
The bubble boy was Nikita Badyakovsky. The Belarusian high roller busted with ♣️2️⃣ against Rob Yong, who flopped a pair of eights. And shortly before that, Badyakovsky witnessed a wish come true at the poker table.
During the 6-max stage, Alexey "Avrora" Borovkov shoved preflop with ♥️♦️ for 230,000 and got a call only from Badyakovsky, who held ♠️♠️. The Russian said he was hoping for the nine of spades. True, the magic didn't work on the flop — ♥️♦️♦️ gave Badyakovsky a pair. But on the turn Borovkov's wish came true — the ♠️ came. On the ♥️ river, Avrora made a full house and doubled up.
Less than an hour passed between Badyakovsky's bubble bust and the final hand. Nikolay Voskoboynikov, who entered the tournament mere minutes before late registration closed, knocked out Rob Yong in third place. The owner of the Onyx club left with a $164,000 prize.
In the heads-up, Voskoboynikov faced Borovkov. The Russian started with a significant deficit but managed to reduce it with an early double. However, the Belarusian player then methodically began chipping away at his opponent's stack.
In the decisive hand, Avrora went all-in with ♥️♦️, and Voskoboynikov called with ♠️♣️. The Belarusian caught a pair right on the ♥️♦️♣️ flop and started celebrating after the ♣️ on the river. The ♣️ trips that came on the river sealed his victory. Voskoboynikov won $450,000, while Borovkov took $250,000.
"I don't play all that much — maybe four or five series a year. That's why first place and a trophy are always an incredible achievement for me. I have trophies from almost every poker series, but there was one I hadn't taken yet. Today its time came. Mission accomplished," Voskoboynikov said after the win.
