«Santos» forward Neymar, after Brazil's national team was knocked out of the World Cup, already made an appearance at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, and now he has visited a major festival back home. On July 21, the Brazilian Series of Poker kicked off in São Paulo, which the 34-year-old footballer attended. For this, he even skipped «Santos»' match against Venezuela's «Universidad Central» (4:1) in the Copa Sudamericana.
Neymar took part in the Invitational tournament with a $5000 buy-in and already on day one delivered a spectacular hand against Leo Rizzo. With pocket fours, the forward called his opponent's all-in, who held ♦️♦️. The ♦️♠️2️⃣ flop kept Neymar ahead but gave his opponent a straight draw. The footballer then began to conjure the cards, urging «numbers» to fall on the board. It worked — the ♥️ turn and ♣️ river helped him take the pot.
Then Neymar, with ♥️♠️, shoved as a bluff against Valdir Guerra's pocket nines. Once again the board helped the Brazilian national team star. On the ♣️♠️♥️ flop he made a stronger two pair, and the ♠️ turn and ♣️ river preserved his advantage.
However, Neymar still didn't make it to victory in the Invitational. He busted on day two of the tournament, which drew 171 entries. Among the participants were also regulars Felipe Boianovsky and Kelvin Kerber.
The winner turned out to be amateur Pedro Ferrer, who earned 1 million Brazilian reais ($197,700). The champion admitted he was shocked by Neymar's appearance at the table:
«I'm a huge fan of Neymar. So when he walked into the room, I was just in shock. We had to hold ourselves back so as not to bother the star. But he's magnificent, I was happy to see him».
