Roy Thung passes away two weeks after final WSOP cash

Mixed cash game legend Roy Thung has passed away in Las Vegas at the age of 82, as reported by PokerNews. The cause of the poker player's death is currently unknown.

On 28 June, Thung ran deep to cash in the World Series $5,000 6-Handed No-Limit Hold'em event, finishing 72nd for $12,390. Additionally, at this summer's series, he secured $109,459 for a 13th-place finish in the prestigious $50,000 buy-in Poker Players' Championship. Thung's first WSOP cash dates back to 1997, bringing his total career live tournament earnings to $884,609.

Beyond the felt, Roy Thung was a highly successful businessman. He owned the insurance firm Independence Holding Co. and Nasco International, a manufacturing company specialising in polymer packaging with annual revenues exceeding $200m.
