US Amateur Skipped WSOP Main Event for Cinema and Cash Games

American amateur Amit Agarwal became a poker Twitter sensation thanks to his unconventional approach to playing the World Series Main Event. The player repeatedly walked away from his stack at the table to watch *Hit Man in the cinema, play low-stakes cash games or work out at the gym.

On his X account, Agarwal shared his calculations on the stack size he needed to build to secure a cash:

"My goal for this WSOP Main Event is to cash. For n players, the total chip count is 60,000. To make the money, you need to hold an average stack when the field shrinks to 0.15n. That's 60kn/0.15n = 60k/0.15 = 400k. A 400k stack will be the average for the field of players in the money."

During Flight 1d, Amit Agarwal built his stack from 60,000 to 130,000 and decided to abandon his table two levels before the end of the day. Before making his decision, he asked ChatGPT how many chips he would lose and got the answer — approximately 16,000, depending on the speed of play.

Agarwal headed to the cinema to watch *Hit Man for the fifth time, spending the 25 minutes before the show playing a $1/$2 cash game with a $500 buy-in. The amateur revealed that he lost his entire stack in just four hands.

On Day 2, Agarwal spun his stack up to 240k chips in the very first hour, shortly after which he departed for another screening of *Hit Man. Later, he played a $40 cash game, worked out at the gym, and returned to his hotel room in the early evening to watch *House of the Dragon.

"One of the main priorities in my life is to maximize fun. You know? Life can be tough. You can't take everything so seriously. If I don't entertain myself, who will? It's incredibly important to allow ourselves to be ridiculous."

However, Agarwal failed to carry his stack into Day 3. He bust out at the very end of Day 2, getting it all-in straight-to-straight. The amateur departed the Main Event, posting on his X: “Zero rugrats”.
