Mike Matusow was hit with a one-round penalty during Flight 2abc of the World Series of Poker Main Event. The four-time bracelet winner received the sanction for showing one of his hole cards to an opponent at the feature TV table.
In a crucial hand, Matusow called a 4,000-chip bet with ♣️♠️ against Stephen Ross, who held ♣️♣️. A player named Lee also joined the action, calling with ♥️♣️.
The flop fell ♦️♠️♣️. Lee checked, Ross fired a bet of 3,000, Matusow called, and Lee folded. The turn brought the ♣️, giving Ross a flush draw, which he decided to check. Matusow bet 7,000, and Ross made the call.
The river delivered the ♣️, completing Ross's flush, prompting him to fire a 27,500 bet. Matusow, sitting on a stack of 75,500, went deep into the tank before asking his opponent to show him one of his hole cards. "Only after you," Ross replied, prompting Matusow to flip over one of his own cards.
The dealer immediately called the floor. After a brief argument, Matusow folded his hand and stepped aside to speak with the floor staff. Upon returning to the table, the four-time WSOP champion confirmed he had been penalised and headed to the rail. Matusow ultimately bagged up 1087th place with 32 big blinds at the end of the day.
