Arthur Martirosian to Start $100,000 PLO High Roller Final Day as Short Stack
Just five players remain in the hunt for the prestigious $100,000 Pot-Limit Omaha High Roller title at the World Series of Poker. The second day of action saw 19 players return to the felt, with late registration fueling another 33 entries. However, the field was quickly cut in half during the opening level. Among those hitting the rail early were heavyweight pros Alex Foxen, Phil Ivey, Brian Rast, Josh Arieh, Mike Mizerahi, and Bryn Kenney.
Arthur Martirosian started the day strong, sending nine-time WSOP champion Shaun Deeb to the rail early on to seize the chip lead. The Russian high roller also claimed the ultimate scalp on the money bubble, busting three-time bracelet winner Naoya Kihara, before denying Gergo Nagy a final table berth, sending the Hungarian player home in 10th place.
As the day progressed, the field thinned further with the departures of Robert Cowen (11th - $224,962), Jeremy Ausmus (9th - $259,047), Sergio Martinez Gonzalez (8th - $312,233), and Sean Winter (6th - $393,139). Martirosian ultimately lost his grip on the lead, sliding down to fifth in the counts.
"The last two hours were a brutal card-dead stretch. I was hovering around 7-8 million chips for most of it, but lost a massive pot right at the end to bag up at my absolute lowest point. I'll have 4.7 million returning to blinds of 120k/240k tomorrow—still a highly playable stack. It was a grueling finish; I'm going to get some rest and come back fresh tomorrow to run it up," Martirosian posted on his Telegram channel.
The high roller final table resumes today at 20:00 BST. The eventual champion will pull in a massive $2,257,718 payday. Among the final five, only Yosuke Miki is hunting for his first career WSOP bracelet.
