Negreanu falls one step short of victory in a Poker Masters event
The Poker Masters series in Las Vegas is drawing to a close. Daniel Negreanu came close to winning the $25,000 No-Limit Hold'em event but finished second. Amusingly, the bubble boy was once again Adrian Mateos — for the fifth time this series! This time the Spaniard busted with J♠️4♥️ against Matthew Wantman, who flopped two pair.
Negreanu started the final table as chip leader and made it to heads-up, though not without trouble. There he faced young American pro Nick Seward. The Hall of Famer began the duel with a chip advantage — 84 blinds against 66 BB. However, Seward pulled ahead after making quads on the flop in one of the pots.
Later came a crucial cooler. Negreanu with Q♠️J♣️ made a flush on the river of A♣️2♣️6♠️9♣️6♣️, but Seward with A♠️6♥️ got there with a full house. The American overbet and Daniel folded.
In the final hand, Negreanu jammed for 20 BB in response to another Seward raise from the button. The American's K♦️J♥️ held against his opponent's K♥️10♦️ on a 9♠️3♠️3♣️5♣️7♣️ board and earned him $412,500 plus the first PokerGO Tour title of his career. Negreanu earned $262,500.
This win, along with three other cashes, lifted Seward to third place on the Poker Masters leaderboard with 397 points. He passed Vitaly Zavorotny (365 points) and Daniyal Gheba (348 points).
Adrian Mateos still leads the race for the purple jacket, 44 points ahead of Nicolas Palma. The jacket winner will be decided by the results of the $50,000 Poker Masters Championship.
