Joao Simao continued his upswing at the Super High Roller Bowl
The Super High Roller Bowl: Pot-Limit Omaha IV tournament, with a $100,000 buy-in and a $3.2 million prize pool, has wrapped up in Las Vegas. Elite players took part, producing 32 total entries. Despite only one re-entry being allowed, Alex Foxen, Eelis Pärssinen, Jared Bleznick and Ben Tollerene all managed to bust twice before the end of day one.

Only six players reached the ITM zone, and they made up the final table at the end of day two. Joao Simao came to the final table with the second-biggest stack, trailing only Sean Rafael.

The Brazilian came into the tournament on an upswing that started back in December after his win at Super High Roller Bowl X. Since then he has claimed a Triton title in the Bahamas, won two WSOP bracelets and earned $9.87 million at Triton Jeju II. In South Korea, Simao took one trophy, finished second once and posted an insane 987% ROI.

However, even that kind of form wasn't enough for Simao to beat Sean Rafael. The American Omaha specialist knocked out four of his five opponents at the final table. Simao, for his part, sent only Richard Gryko to the rail, setting up heads-up play with Rafael.

Early in the heads-up match, Rafael, holding the stronger hand on the river, bet 1,125,000 chips, which would have forced Simao all-in if he called. The Brazilian thought about his decision for 7 minutes, burning all 14 of his time-bank cards, and ultimately folded.

Simao later managed to close the gap, but he still couldn't catch Rafael. In the decisive hand, the Brazilian got it in on the turn of 9♦️4♣️4♦️6♣️ with A♦️K♥️5♥️4♥️. The American called with A♣️7♠️7♣️6♦️, holding 27.5% equity. The 9♣️ river completed Rafael's flush and handed him the title.

Sean Rafael earned $1,150,000, recording his first seven-figure score of his career and, accordingly, a new best cash. Joao Simao received $775,000 for second place and extended his run of impressive results in high roller tournaments.

Today in Las Vegas the hold'em $100,000 Super High Roller Bowl XI kicks off and will run for three days. Broadcasts will air on PokerGO's YouTube channel.
