The heads-up between Avrora and Junglemen has concluded
A friendly heads-up match between Alexey "Avrora" Borovkov and Dan "Jungleman" Cates took place on Phenom Poker. The buy-in was $2,000 with blinds of $10/$20. At the start, they had to wait for the American regular, who is an ambassador for the site, since he couldn't find the table at first and then couldn't connect to the second one.
Midway through the session, Avrora found an effective exploit — overbets. The Russian regular noticed that his opponent was regularly folding to them and started actively overbetting as a bluff, counting his successful attempts. Jungleman only began calling closer to the 20th such attempt.
In one sequence, Borovkov snapped off Cates' bluff in two simultaneous hands. In one of them, Jungleman, with the bigger stack, shoved on the river of 2♦️Q♥️7♠️4♠️2♠️ for 156.8 BB, and Avrora called with Q♦️10♣️. The American high roller turned out to have 5♦️3♦️.
In the second hand, Borovkov called Cates' 11 BB bet with J♠️7♦️ on the river of 7♣️5♦️5♥️9♠️4♠️. Alexey took down that pot as well with two pair.
In the end, Avrora finished the 2-hour heads-up match up $2,200 and was pleased with his performance:
"It was like Jungleman was on total autopilot at first, but then he adjusted and we had a decent battle. I'm happy with how I played, I think I showed a good level of play."
