Negreanu busted from the WSOP $10,000 PLO final table in 20 minutes
Daniel Negreanu's hunt for a ninth bracelet ended unexpectedly quickly. The Canadian started the final table of the WSOP Online $10,000 GGMillion$ Pot-Limit Omaha with the second-biggest stack, but busted just 20 minutes in.
The key hand came against Andreas "Elite" Freund, from whom Negreanu had already managed to take over the chip lead by that point. On a 3♣️A♥️2♣️8♥️ turn, the Canadian bet pot with Q♥️J♣️4♥️4♣️, and Freund answered with a re-raise holding Q♣️10♠️8♦️8♣️. Negreanu raised to 85.5 BB and forced his opponent to move all-in. In the end, almost 200 BB were in the pot.
Negreanu had only 17.5% to win. The 5♣️ river completed a flush for both players, but Freund had the stronger combination. He took the pot, and Negreanu was left with 6.7 BB. On the next hand, "KidPoker" lost his last chips.
On his X account, Negreanu broke down the hand against Freund:
"Most importantly: I'm playing for first place only and nothing else. This is an ICM spot where he shouldn't be raising the turn without the nuts, and the nuts here is 45. I block those with two fours. It's a good spot for bluffs and ICM pressure. But even if the opponent does have 45, I had two flush draws.
The turn did all the damage to me. But he shouldn't be raising the turn with a set and a flush draw against the BB. He didn't have a 4 or a 5, and that's my most likely value hand in that line.
It's a tough ICM spot. The opponent shouldn't want to get it in against the only person who can bust him. But maybe he just doesn't care about ICM."
After knocking out Negreanu, Freund steamrolled the rest of his opponents. The final table lasted a little over an hour. Heads-up, "Elite" defeated Vito "11Y11" Reccimurzo, who put up resistance and managed to double up several times.
In the end, Freund still ground down the Venezuelan player and claimed his first WSOP bracelet. The Austrian also earned $428,456 and received a $30,000 package for WSOP Paradise. Vito Reccimurzo took $317,844, and Daniel Negreanu got $71,409 for seventh place.
