Sergey Petrushevsky came one step short of the title in Cyprus
Sergey Petrushevsky came up one step short of the title at the Global Poker Championship, which drew 830 entries.
In the $2,200 buy-in event, the player finished second, earning $200,000. The main trophy and $300,000 in prize money went to China's Cunya Zhang.
Other Russian players also made a deep run in the tournament: Anatoly Korochensky ended his run in 13th place, and Roman Gadzhiev busted right after in 12th. Both players earned $21,200 each, losing their stacks to Romanian reg Adrian Stait.
In the final stage of the tournament, Petrushevsky had to face a Chinese contingent of three poker players. Sergey managed to outplay Mengdian Peng (4th place) and Yilu Yuan (3rd place) to secure a spot in the heads-up, but in the decisive duel Zhang, with a huge chip lead, quickly closed it out for the win.
