Call with 5-high on the river and win?
PokerStars ambassador Erly Shaban shared a hand from one of his streams that went viral and racked up 62,000 views on X.

During the Sunday Mistery, Shaban, sitting with a 67.76 BB stack and pocket threes, bet 50% of the pot on a 2♦️6♦️6♥️K♠️K♣️ river. His opponent, table chip leader VinnyVegas with a 104.16 BB stack, called. He took down the 20.25 BB pot with 5♦️2♥️, which shocked Shaban: "The guy just called with 5-high! What did we just see?"

Some users in the comments suggested that VinnyVegas may have simply gotten lucky with a misclick. And someone even advised Shaban to end his poker career after a hand like that.

A while back, Patrick Leonard shared a similar hand. Pads won with J-high after calling his opponent's 50% pot raise on a K♠️8♣️7♠️2♦️7♦️ river. The British regular's opponent turned up 10♦️9♦️.

Leonard later explained the decision by noting that with most of his value range — hands like 76 and 88 — the opponent should be going all-in on the river.
"I think when he's picking hands to bluff with, he starts with the ones without spades and then works his way down as low as he can through his range. He can get to the river with four combos of 65s, three combos of T9s, or a combo draw like 54s.

As for thin value, we can assume something like KQ, for example. And given the pot odds he's giving me by not shoving all-in — if he isn't showing restraint and is betting with something like A-high — then for me it's an absolutely obvious call," Leonard wrote.
