# Fly's Brain Taught to Play Blackjack
A digitized fruit fly brain has been taught to play blackjack. A user on X wrote that he gave the brain, consisting of 166,606 neurons, access to his casino account. Beforehand, he offered the fly four possible actions: hit, stand, split, and double down.

The state of the game is fed from the online casino into the neural input, after which activity propagates across the entire map of neural connections. The selected outgoing activity is then decoded into an action — that is, the fly makes a decision, which is sent back and executed at the blackjack table.

A win is +1, a loss is -1, a push is 0. Before the experiment, the author did not load any blackjack strategy into the brain, meaning the fly learned the game from scratch. The fruit fly played blackjack for more than 6 hours and lost $222 in that time.

Scientists released a digitized version of the fruit fly brain into open access a few days ago. Enthusiasts have taught this model to play DOOM, watch TikToks, ride a skateboard to dubstep, drink beer, and much more.
