Alex Theologis Wins His First Triton Title

Alex Theologis Wins His First Triton Title
In Jeju, the first event of the Triton Poker festival has wrapped up — the $15,000 No-Limit Hold'em 8-Handed, which drew 206 entries. Its winner was Greek player Alex Theologis, who claimed his first high-roller series title.

Theologis reached the final table as chip leader, but personally managed to knock out only Kiat Lee. Victor Chong was far more active in eliminating opponents. The Malaysian player sent Adrian Mateos, Daniel Rezaei and Punnat Punsri to the rail, which allowed him to start heads-up with a chip advantage.

However, the one-on-one battle lasted less than an hour. Theologis took down a few big pots and seized the lead. Late in heads-up, Chong won one all-in and immediately shoved again with 8♥️4♣️. Theologis instantly called with J♥️10♦️. On the 9♦️A♦️6♥️7♣️3♦️ board, the Greek's hand held up and delivered him the win.

"I really wanted to win a Triton trophy. I had a second place and a few third places, so of course it's great to finally claim a title. I got really lucky to be able to win. The game was very unpredictable. I lost a lot of chips, but then I came back, so yeah, in the end it all worked out," Theologis said in an interview with PokerNews.

Along with the trophy, Alex Theologis collected $642,000, while Victor Chong earned $431,000. Russian Artur Martirosyan took a min-cash of $25,500 for 29th place, failing to recover his three entries, while Latvian high roller Aleksey Ponyakov finished 24th and received $28,500.
