Borovkov, Ponyakov, and Skhulukhia advanced to Day 2 of the Onyx Main Event

The two final starting flights of the Onyx High Roller Series main event, with a $25,500 buy-in, have concluded. Flight 1b drew 106 entries, and 16 players carried their stacks into Day 2, joining the 17 survivors from Flight 1a.
Long before the bubble, Artur Martirosyan, Alex Kulev, Nikita Badyakovskiy and Artem Lasovskiy busted out. And just a few steps short of advancing to Day 2, the only woman in the field, Natalya Nikitina, and Andrey Pateychuk fell.
The Flight 1b bubble dragged on for nearly 45 minutes and finally burst with the elimination of Briton Aysar Bataineh. He shoved his last 3 BB with ♠️♦️ and got a call from Boris Kolev with ♥️♣️. The board ♦️♦️♠️♣️♣️ improved the Bulgarian to two pair, and Bataineh's bustout closed out the playing day.
Kolev sits second in the chipcount with 93 BB, trailing slightly behind leading German Jordan Woodall (98 BB). The Bulgarian reg continues his strong run in Northern Cyprus. Yesterday he won the $10,400 Mystery Bounty, defeating Russian Alexander Kirichenko heads-up, and earned $127,400.
The turbo Flight 1c saw 36 participants, of whom only five remain. Among them are three-time WSOP champion Eelis Parssinen and Ukrainian Igor Yaroshevskiy.
The only Russian-speaking player in the top 10 of the chipcount at the start of Day 2 is Alexander Shilko, in fifth place. In the second ten are Aram Sargsyan and Nikolay Voskoboynikov. A bit further down the table are Alexey "Avrora" Borovkov, Arseniy Karmatskiy, Parahat Nurmuhammedov and Dmitriy Gromov.
Among the short stacks are Alexey Ponyakov (280,000 chips) and Gia Skhulukhia (90,000), who managed to carry a stack into Day 2 on his fourth entry. The tournament resumes today, August 13, at 13:00 MSK.
