Wynn Resorts has postponed the opening of the Wynn Al Marjan Island resort in Ras Al Khaimah until September 2027. The timeline shifted amid a $600M increase in project costs, and total spending now exceeds $5.7B. This is the first casino in the UAE to receive a license from the local regulator, the GCGRA.
Company CEO Craig Billings cited the conflict in the Middle East as the reason for the delay, which disrupted supply logistics and the shipping insurance market. Some materials and equipment had to be rerouted or urgently sourced from alternative suppliers.
The resort includes 1,500 rooms, a spa complex, a retail zone, a conference hall, and a modern poker room. The 70-story tower with a spire reaching 352 meters will become the centerpiece of the Al Marjan archipelago.
Wynn estimates that the total turnover of the UAE gaming market could reach between $3 and $5B per year. GCGRA head Jim Murren expects up to four similar casinos to be built in the Emirates in the coming years.
