Player celebrated victory prematurely before busting out of a WSOP tournament

On the final day of the $1500 Millionaire Maker, a tragicomic bustout occurred. Japanese player Seiji Sasaki misjudged the outcome of the hand and celebrated a double-up with his rail, only to realize a couple of seconds later that he had been eliminated from the tournament.

With 15 players remaining, future finalist Michael Monroig opened for 2 million chips from the CO with ♣️♠️. Sasaki called on the BB with ♣️♠️, left with less than one big blind. On the ♣️♣️♣️ flop, both players picked up a flush draw, with Monroig holding the nut combination.

The American poker player bet another 600 thousand, and Sasaki responded by going all-in. Right after that, the Japanese player walked over to his rail to await the result of the hand. On the ♥️ turn, Sasaki made two pair, but Monroig gained more outs for a stronger hand.

On the ♥️ river, Sasaki celebrated winning the hand. "I think he thinks he won. You see, we all do that," said commentator Joe Stapleton. However, upon returning to the table, the Japanese player realized he had lost. With two pair on board for both players, Monroig took down the pot thanks to his pocket ace.

Seiji Sasaki finished 15th in the Millionaire Maker and earned $75,200, his best live tournament result to date. The Japanese player's total career earnings now stand at $379,991.
